KIDDERMINSTER is revving up for a day of carnival fun as a convoy of vintage vehicles joins the street parade for the first time.

Taking pride of place among the floats will be a moving, potted history of motoring, courtesy of the Stourbridge Pre-War Car Club, when the carnival rolls into town on Saturday.

The line-up is expected to include a 1934 Lagonda, owned by Ian Robinson, of Kidderminster, together with a 1924 Morris Cowley, 1937 Triumph Gloria, 1930 Model A Ford pick-up and classic 1963 Rover.

Carnival chairman, Colin Hill, said: "We are very pleased that the car club members are willing to join our parade.

"Their gleaming vehicles will give it a great boost and I'm sure they'll create a lot of interest."

The procession will set off from the New Road car park at noon and is expected to reach Brinton Park showground at around 1.45pm.

Thousands of people are expected to join in the carnival fun and police are warning motorists that New Road, Bridge Street, Vicar Street and Worcester Street will be affected by the festivities.

Motorists should also find an alternative route to Marlborough Street, Castle Road, Wood Street, Chapel Street, Bewdley Road and Sutton Road on the day.

Carnival goers, however, will enjoy a feast of entertainment in the afternoon, including dance performances from the Free Spirit Line Dancers, Bewdley Morris Dancers, the Sherwood Foresters Dance Troupe and a group of belly dancers.

There will be a fun fair, cresta run, quad bikes, bouncy castle, penalty shoot-out and scores of stalls and side shows.

Most of the proceeds from the carnival will go to the Acorns Children's Hospice in Worcester.

Donations will also be made to Wyre Forest Nightstop, which helps homeless young people and the district's Cancer Research UK committee.
