GOOD progress is being made in Wyre Forest's three-year strategy for housing in the district, councillors have been told.

A report updating members of the district council's service policy panel on the strategy, covering 2004-2007, said the authority was "on track" to meet its target of funding for 120 affordable homes.

Working with social landlords and the Housing Corporation and the South Housing Market Area Partnership had helped secure £6 million of Housing Corporation grant funding for 2006-2008.

There had been success in reducing homelessness in the district, although there remained "serious concerns" about longer term availability of affordable housing to meet local need.

Older and more vulnerable people had been enabled to retain their independence in decent housing conditions thanks to the work of the Stourport-based North Worcestershire Care and Repair Agency during the past year.
