STOURPORT'S Ultimate Frisbee team are inviting beginners to have a fling at an open day showcasing the sport.

The free event takes place at Stourport Memorial Park from 1pm to 4pm on Sunday, July 2.

Ultimate is a fast-paced disc sport played across the world with 200 teams in the UK.

It is a sport that encompasses fitness, strategy, speed, agility and, most of all, sportsmanship as there are no referees and foul calls are sorted out by the players themselves.

Two teams of seven compete on a field with the aim of the game to advance the disc upfield to score in the opponents' end-zone.

Stourport organiser John Watson, who runs the team called Psychedelic Rhinos, said: "We are inviting anyone to come and join us regardless of whether you've played before or not.

"You will learn the basic rules of Ultimate, learn the throws used in a game including backhands, forehands, hammers, scoobers and blades.

"We will then show you a demonstration game after which you will be playing yourselves in a game.

"People should come and have a look at what Ultimate is all about and learn how to throw a disc like they never thought possible," added Watson, who hopes to recruit a host of new players.

Anyone wishing to take part can just turn up with a light or dark t-shirt, football boots and plenty of water.

For more information call John on 07815 847539 or visit www.ukul timate.com to learn more about the sport.

The Psychedelic Rhinos train from 6pm to 7.30pm on Tuesdays and 10am to noon on Sundays.
