AFTER grabbing his first Prescott victory at the midsummer meeting last year, Deryk Young has been right on the pace in top-line hill climb competition.

The Hereford driver will surely be the man to beat in a busy weekend's motor sport at the Bugatti Owners' Club's hill.

Young's immaculate Gould single-seater has pedigree of the highest order. It was originally used by dynamic Scotsman Graeme Wight jnr to win the British Championship in 2001 and 2002 and the power now comes from his own four-litre Judd V8 racing engine.

Saturday and Sunday's meeting follows the established British Championship format with the first set of class runs starting at 10am on day two and the 12 fastest drivers going forward to the first run-off just before lunch.

The pattern is repeated in the afternoon with a second shoot-out to close the programme.

So drivers must first get into the 12 and then go flat-out on each run-off for a good points core that count towards the prestigious Avon/BMTR Top Ten Challenge.

Prescott is the fifth of nine meetings at Midlands tracks that make up this competition.

Other drivers will have their eyes on the Bugatti Owners' Club's Prescott Gold Cup where Leamington's Roy Standley has a slender lead in his ultra-quick Mitsubishi Lancer Evo5 saloon.

Cheltenham's Martin Jones defends his title in the Paul Matty Sports Cars Classic Challenge driving his Ginetta single-seater and there's a strong contingent from the Stroud and District Motor Club chasing hard in this Handicap Series.

Practice on Saturday is from 9.30am and Sunday's competition begins at 10am.

Adult admission is £10 on Saturday and £14 on Sunday. Accompanied children under 14 are admitted free and car parking is free.
