SIMON Andrews and Piranha Racing collected more points in the British Supersports Championship at Snett-erton last weekend.

The Wickhamford racer moved up to ninth in the championship listings after qualifying in seventh place for the Supersports race on the Yamaha R6.

Andrews initially dropped back to 12th place after the first bend with his team still trying to find the optimum setting for getting the R6 off the start line with the front pack.

And, once again, he found himself fighting to make his way through the slower riders although once through, the battle was on for fifth place.

On taking the chequered flag, though, Andrews was pipped on the line by Camier and Easton.

Andrews also had an offer to ride the Jentin Yamaha R1 Superbike and the target was to achieve the top 20 but early indications showed that he was producing extremely fast lap times moving from 19th in the first session to tenth in the second session before climbing up to third in final practice.

Qualifying in ninth for the Super-bikes, the Vale rider set the fastest time through the speed trap on the rear straight at 172mph.

On the second lap in the first Super-bike race, Andrews was overtaken by Glen Richards through the S bends. Richards braked so hard scrubbing off his corner speed to make the turn, he forced his bike upright sending Andrews out on to the grass and out of the race.

The Jentin R1 machine was too badly damaged to be repaired in time for the second race.

ITV continued with a scheduled interview with Andrews on the grid before the start of the second race and the whole weekend created an enormous amount of media interest for both teams.

The weekend certainly was one to remember and the Evesham ace proved that the Yamaha R1 Superbike is competitive and suits his style of riding.
