Yesterday afternoon, the Right Rev Bishop Milne administered the sacrament of Confirmation at Guarlford Church, when there were no fewer than 40 candidates from this sparsely-populated parish, two from Malvern Link and one from Madresfield. Bishop Milne preached in the evening when a special service, conducted by the rector, the Rev Hubert Jones, was held to celebrate the re-opening of the church after restoration. WHEN I came to Ledbury, about a year ago, as a Wesleyan Minister, one of the first things that awakened my surprise was the absence of any open space or recreation ground, where the lads and young men of Ledbury could engage in those sports that form an essential party of the happy life of every young person. Malvern has 22 namesake towns overseas and carefully fosters links with all of them. On Monday, the chairman of the Malvern UDC, Councillor R G Reed, formerly Head Postmaster at Malvern, took advantage of the Postmaster General's new greetings telegrams scheme to send messages of goodwill to Malvern, Victoria, Australia; Malvern, Ontario, Canada; Malvern, Jamaica, and Malvern, Natal. THE Council of the Magic Circle in London has unanimously promoted the Ledbury magician, Eric Williams, to the rank of Member of the Inner Magic Circle, with a gold star. This is the highest award that they can bestow on a non-professional magician. Ledbury Reporter, June 29, 1956.

Any attempt to close St Wulstan's psychiatric hospital, Malvern Wells, must be justified by an independent team of assessors with power to compare similar facilities in the West Midlands. Fears for St Wulstan's were revived this week with the issue of a statement by the health authority, which said "most mentally ill or handicapped patients in the region now have access to rehabilitation services which are comparable with or better than those at St Wulstan's." CAN anyone help a former German Prisoner of War who is seeking to renew friendships he made during his enforced stay in the Ledbury area? Herr George Bruntrup recalls the happy times he spent working for Mr Harry Fortnam, before he returned to Germany and lost contact with the people who were so kind to him.
