Upton's three-day jazz festival begins today (Friday) with many top acts assembled to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the event.

These feature a variety of styles including New Orleans, hot club, dixieland, comedy, traditional and swing.

Among the major attractions are The Big Chris Barber Band, George Melly & Digby Fairweather's Half Dozen, Red Stripe Band, Bourbon Street Stampers and James Evans' Incredible String Four.

The music takes place in four marquees on Fish meadow and a variety of venues in the town centre.

Highlights include the Mardi Gras parade at 11.30am on Saturday and the Sunday morning jazz service at the parish church at 11am, followed by another parade through the town.

Weekend tickets are £50, with day tickets available for today (£18), tomorrow ((£26) and Sunday (£22).

A festival shop window competition for traders is due to be judged today (Friday).
