RESIDENTS will be saddened to hear of the death of Muriel Norey. She passed away peacefully at Hereford Hospital, after a long period of serious illness, early on Wednesday morning, June 14.

Muriel had lived in Wellington Heath for about 20 years and was a much-loved and popular member of the community. She was an extremely thoughtful person and always did her very best to help and support others in need. She had been a nurse with Princess Mary's Royal Air Force Nursing Service during the Second World War and had many moving memories of the time she spent serving her country. Right until the end, she retained a deep affection for the RAF and a love for the village. She also loved her dogs, birds and wildlife.

Muriel will be best remembered for her contribution to the memorial hall. She was a member of the committee for over 15 years and ran the 200 Club for most of that time. Her stated aim of enrolling 200 members was achieved before she had to give up the club through ill-health. She raised a great deal of money for the hall through the club, which was needed when the new hall was built.

Even when she became too ill to run the club, she continued to collect the money from her area. She was also always there to support the hall's many fundraising activities and social events. She will be greatly missed.

Muriel's funeral takes place at Christ Church, Wellington Heath at 2pm on Tuesday, June 27. She asked to be buried in the village following cremation.

The village fete will take place this year on Sunday, July 16, from 3-6.30pm. There will be music from the Creole Serenaders, traditional side-shows, barbecue, strawberries and cream and a bar.
