TEENAGER Danny Hodnett is desperate to be involved in another Worcester City FA Cup success story.

The 18-year-old summer signing was an unsung hero in the memorable fourth qualifying round triumph over Accrington Stanley, scrapping away productively in an unfamiliar central midfield role.

Without captain Graham Hyde, Hodnett was flung into the first tie at Accrington's Interlink Express Stadium despite having made just one previous City start.

Following his tireless display, the former Kidderminster Harriers reserve player was rewarded with a midfield birth for the replay and the Nationwide North win over Barrow.

Hodnett took great pleasure in dumping Stanley out of the FA Cup and he is determined to play a crucial role in Saturday's first round tie at Chippenham Town.

"When you are young, these sort of games are brilliant," said Hodnett. "You can't ask for much more than playing in front of 2,000 to 3,000 fans in the FA Cup.

"It's great to be involved in the team. This is the first time I've ever been in the first team fighting for my place and it's great.

"At Accrington, that was my first taste of football where winning or losing really mattered. Seeing the emotion on the faces of our supporters was unreal.

"It's going to be an incredibly hard game at Chippenham. Hopefully, if we do all the right things and have the right attitude, we will come through it."

Hodnett, a natural defender, was delighted to retain his place against Barrow alongside 16-year-old Sam Wedgbury and Tom Warmer, despite the recent return of veteran midfielder Hyde.

He added: "It's such a confidence booster to know that if we are playing well and trying to do the right things, the gaffer is not going to overlook that.

"I suppose the three of us know that Hydey is first choice.

"With him being available, the ball is in our court. I've got to be trying to play as much as possible."
