ANDY Preece will press for new signings at Worcester City tonight during a meeting over available cash funds.

The St George's Lane boss is eager to bolster his squad and increase City's chances of making huge strides in Nationwide North.

A tough league schedule lies ahead for Worcester -- resulting from their successful FA Cup run -- and they hold at least two games in hand on every club in the division.

City can close in on the play-offs by wining their postponed games and Preece believes adding fresh faces could prove a necessity.

He is keen to get his hands on a portion of the cash generated from the FA Cup, believed to be near the £200,000 mark, to fund new signings in both the short and long-term.

City return to training tonight at St George's Lane, where Preece will discuss Worcester's future in a meeting with the board.

"We are going to have a meeting to see where we go financially and what the plan is long-term and short-term," said Preece.

"We will see what money is available and look at ways to take the club forward. It's important we do things right, but we will have a good chat about it.

"I'm pretty happy with the squad, but I just think it could help to bring in one or two fresh faces to add more competition for places.

"We've got five or six games in hand on quite a lot of teams and we are going to need those extra couple of bodies. It's not about giving people a rest, it's about adding competition."

While Preece endeavours to strengthen his squad, he is acutely aware that higher-league clubs may be lining up to pounce for one of his own players, especially in the wake of City's impressive FA Cup display against Huddersfield Town.

And he concedes he may be obliged to sell if it proves beneficial to the player.

Preece added: "I don't want to lose anybody. I want to bring good players to the club.

"But sometimes, you produce good players and then move them on to bigger clubs. That's part of being a manager.

"At Bury, I brought players through from non-league and sold them on within a year or so. It's not easy doing that, but it's part of the job.

"The only enquiry we've had was from Kettering for Graham Hyde. It would be nice to keep the squad together for as long as possible."
