WORCESTER City's academy whizz-kid Sam Wedgbury was yesterday picked in Sheffield United's reserve match against Bradford City.

The talented 16-year-old midfielder, currently on trial at the Championship high-fliers, earned selection to Blades' 16-strong 'A' squad.

Wedgbury was an unused substitute at the Bradford and Bingley Stadium as United ran out 2-1 winners in the Pontin's Holiday League Divison One Central fixture.

But he sat on the bench alongside Blades assistant manager Stuart McCall, while recognised stars Brian Deane and Garry Flitcroft figured for the Bramall Lane outfit.

Wedgbury impressed for United's teenage reserve 'B' team earlier this month when they beat Worksop in the Pontins League eastern section.
