ANDY Preece has urged fiery striker Mark Danks to curb his temper in the wake of Monday night's costly sending-off.

Danks became only the second Worcester City player to be shown a red card this season, following George Clegg's Boxing Day dismissal at Stafford Rangers.

But while Clegg collected two bookings for clumsy fouls, Danks' retaliation to a tackle from Redditch United left-back Damion Whitcombe was the first real show of ill-discipline.

The 22-year-old had been provoked by Whitcombe and Reds' captain Mark Creighton for much of the first-half, during which time he put City ahead in the Nationwide North 2-2 derby draw.

Danks lashed out by throwing a kick and punch at grounded Whitcombe.

"Danksy has got to learn from that," said player-manager Preece.

"He's quite sparky and sometimes you can get away with certain things in games. Other things you can't.

"We really haven't had any disciplinary problems this season. It's been a long, long time since anybody has done anything like that."

Earning a three-game ban, Danks is suspended for March 25 and April 4 trips to Hednesford and Stalybridge, along with the St George's Lane clash against Alfreton on April 1.

His goal-scoring prowess will be severely missed. Since his January move from Forest Green, Danks has scored seven times in 10 games.

Preece said: "He will be missing for a two-week period. We will miss Danksy, but we can only look forward."
