GARETH Seddon will join Worcester City despite the striker being set to make an appearance for Bury's reserve team tomorrow.

That's the verdict of City player-manager Andy Preece, who insists former Shakers player Seddon has agreed a move to St George's Lane this summer.

Seddon scored 19 goals during three seasons at Gigg Lane but, on the advice of doctors, retired from professional football at the end of last season suffering from reactive arthritis.

The rare condition, brought on by the rigours of full-time training and games, led to painful swelling in his knees and back and kept him out of action for two full seasons.

A Football League return would, therefore, seem unlikely and Preece admits Seddon's inclusion for the Shakers' second-string should not be interpreted that the 25-year-old is re-joining the League Two strugglers.

Although the St George's Lane chief is unclear why his former apprentice is playing in the 2pm friendly at Chester City, he is adamant Seddon will be donning City's blue and white next season.

"I don't know why he's playing for Bury," said Preece. "They might just be short of numbers. I know what he's like and he loves playing football all the time. It should not affect anything. I don't think there's anything to worry about.

"As far as I'm concerned, we've agreed a deal for next season and there's no problem with that. Gaz is a good mate of mine -- it's not as if it's someone I don't know.

"I don't think he is looking to go back into full-time football, not after all the problems he's had."

Burnley-born Seddon made an impressive one-off appearance last Tuesday, netting the opening goal in City's 3-2 win at Stalybridge Celtic.

He is committed to his local Lancashire side, North West Counties League Division Two outfit Padiham, for the remainder of the season.
