TALENTED young footballers eager to get on the ladder to success are being urged to showcase their talent at Worcester City's successful soccer academy.

City are in the process of selecting their next batch of promising youngsters for their youth development scheme.

The second of three trials is being held at the club's development centre on Bilford Road on Thursday, starting at 10.30am.

Youth development officer Ray Woods and assistant Mark Owen will be running their eye over a number of hopefuls with a further date during the summer holidays.

Trials are open to anyone, although Woods will be taking mostly school-leavers who can benefit from two full years with the club.

As well as football coaching, selected youngsters will study sports science at the Worcester College of Technology and come out with a qualification at the end of the two years.

City's academy is fast becoming a success story and continues to flourish as a youth set-up. In January, 16-year-old midfielder Sam Wedgbury was signed by Sheffield United for a five-figure fee, within six months of joining City's development scheme.

Wedgbury came through the academy scheme and graduated to the City first team. He made over 20 appearances for Worcester, including FA Cup ties and Nationwide North games.

Teenage quartet Gary Walker, Troy Wood, Nat Bulmer and Dale Watkins have also come through the youth development scheme to make first team appearances this season.

The trial will last for about three hours and any players should arrive in appropriate kit and a drink.
