SEVERAL clubs are fighting to snap up former Worcester City goalkeeper Lewis Skyers.

The 22-year-old admits interest has been shown following his shock release at St George's Lane. City boss Andy Preece discarded number two Skyers, a graduate of the club's youth development scheme, for more experience in the shape of Leigh RMI stopper James Coates.

Skyers is mulling over offers although, wherever his next destination lies, he wants to be first-choice.

"I've had a few phone calls already," said Ledbury-based Skyers. "My aim is to play regularly in the first team. In a way, this could be good for me if things work out and I play week in week out.

"I would like to carry on playing at this standard of football -- I won't be moving down too far. But it would not be a bad thing stepping down a league if I was playing all the time."

Skyers deputised for City's injured number one goalkeeper Danny McDonnell at the end of the last Nationwide North campaign, making seven consecutive appearances.

Skyers said: "I thought I did really well and all the feedback I've got from supporters has been great. There was pressure when I got into the side and it was the supporters that helped me through."
