ANDY Preece has vowed to continue playing for Worcester City into his 40th year.

City's player-manager resisted temptations to hang up his boots, believing he still has something to offer in the twilight of his career.

The former Stockport, Crystal Palace and Bury striker made just four league appearances last season and came off the substitutes' bench 24 times.

Acknowledging he is behind Adam Webster, Mark Danks and Troy Wood in the forward pecking order, Preece expects to feature in fewer Nationwide North games next term. But while he remains fit, the 39-year-old reckons he can make a contribution.

"I will register for next season," said Preece. "I will keep myself fit and be there if needed.

"It went through my mind as the season went on to give it up. But I've got to think that if I can still contribute, then it's best to carry on.

"A lot of the younger lads need a little bit of help and guidance and I feel as though I can still give that.

"With the other strikers we've got at the club, I would hope not to be playing in too many games, but you just don't know."
