WINGER Michael Blackwood sh-ould provide Kidderminster Harriers with an attacking ace card on Friday.

The left-sided summer signing is winning his fight against a hamstring injury to swell the Harriers squad against Canvey Island at Aggborough.

But manager Stuart Watkiss must check on Blackwood today when the players return to training after Monday's 2-0 Conference win at Cambridge United, while loan forward Taiwo Atieno heads back to Walsall for treatment.

Atieno was stretchered off with an ankle injury but was able to walk following the game and fellow forward Iyseden Christie was withdrawn with calf cramp.

Watkiss said: "Michael will hopefully be in contention for Friday. We've sent Tai back to Walsall which I think is the right thing to do to let them have a look at him.

"Martin O'Connor has been struggling with his hamstring so he'll be wrapped up in cotton wool before the next game. Otherwise, there were a few little knocks from a hard-fought win."

With today being transfer deadline, Watkiss is keeping tabs on a Football League striker who could join his tribe in a temporary deal.

He is happy with the last loan signing, Barnsley's teenage midfielder Simon Heslop, who im-pressed on his full debut at Cambridge.

He said: "I'm waiting on a manager to find out if he can sign a striker. If he does then we may get another lad on loan.

"It would be nice to get another body in to increase competition. If Tai is going to be out for a sustained period, it ups the urgency to do that.

"I've been delighted with Simon and thought he was outstanding on Monday. He has lots of ability but you can never quite be sure how a player will react to the hustle and bustle of the Conference.

"However, he's technically very good and fit. He just brought us some energy and urgency to the midfield to go alongside O'Connor's experience and Terry Fleming's guile."
