STUART Watkiss wants to create a special FA Cup memory this season and swell the Kidderminster Harriers coffers.

Ahead of tomorrow's unglamorous visit to Conference rivals Southport, the Harriers manager admitted his career has hardly been filled with fond cup nostalgia.

A fourth qualifying round victory could eventually lead to just that for Watkiss and will also net an important £10,000 prize money alongside gate receipts for the cash-strapped club.

He is also desperate for his players to string two match-winning displays together after Tuesday's impressive 2-1 triumph over Darlington in the LDV Vans Trophy.

Former centre-half Watkiss managed Mansfield to success in a televised FA Cup tie and forced a then-Premiership high-flier to extra-time for Walsall in 1995.

He reflected: "We were live on Sky at Mansfield when we played Team Bath. I also remember playing up at Leeds and taking them to extra-time. That was also good but there's been nothing amazing."

Though Watkiss admitted Harriers have budgeted for initial cup progress, he insisted this was nothing unusual at Conference clubs.

He continued: "It's a massive game for the club in terms of finances. We're just hoping we can get through to the third round this season and get one of the big boys.

"From a financial point of view it is very important but all clubs will budget for 'x' amount for cup runs."

However, the draw was not kind on Harriers when it pitted them against the Sandgrounders who drew 1-1 at Aggborough in August.

Watkiss said: "This game is one of four all-Conference ties and we are one of those travelling Conference teams.

"We need to back Tuesday's game up with a decent performance -- something we've been poor at doing. If we can keep the quality, tempo and work ethic of Tuesday, we have every chance of beating them.

"But the word 'consistency' is being used a lot round here of late and we have to make sure we're right.

"We had a bit of a pedestrian display against Southport earlier in the season but even then we did enough to win. We had a couple cleared off the line, missed a penalty and their goal was dubious to say the least due to offside.

"Southport will be more offensive on Saturday. We have to stand up to them and try to impose ourselves."

Right-back Wayne Evans is expected to keep his place tomorrow, despite news he will leave in around a month to concentrate on a football coaching company.

Watkiss was tight-lipped over whether John Danby would return in goal for Danny Lewis who performed capably against Darlington but has a slight knee injury.

He expects winger Michael Blackwood to be missing again with his hamstring injury but midfield general Martin O'Connor (sore knee) should at least start.

On-loan midfielder Simon Heslop will be allowed to play but Walsall do not want forward Taiwo Atieno cup tied. Iyseden Christie's one-match ban for five yellow cards does not start until Tuesday.
