TWO Kidderminster Harriers players face a particularly crucial few weeks with the imminent departure of right-back Wayne Evans.

Summer signing Evans is set to end his season-long Harriers contract by mutual consent in "three or four weeks" to concentrate on a football coaching company.

The former Walsall player's exit and Harriers' well-documented lack of cash means the door is firmly open for potential right-backs Wayne Graves and Gavin Hurren.

With Graves hit by injury so far and Hurren still waiting for his full debut ahead of today's FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie at Southport, the duo have a great opportunity to stake a claim for the role.

Graves, an addition from Scunthorpe, is capable of playing in midfield or at full-back, while ex-Nottingham Forest youngster Hurren is also a versatile operator.

Harriers manager Stuart Watkiss said: "Graves is in the squad for Southport. He's been doing a lot of running and is having a mini pre-season this week and next week if you like.

"Wayne Evans is likely to go in three or four weeks time and we have to make sure we have got possible replacements.

"Graves and Hurren are the best possible candidates but they have got some hard work to do."

Watkiss admitted Evans' decision to depart was no great surprise as he knew the defender's ultimate ambition was to gain his UEFA 'A' coaching licence and work in the USA or Australia.

The boss added: "We spoke about it in the summer and I took him on knowing the situation. He's been very honest about it.

"He's going to be leaving at a time which suits both parties."

The saving on Evans' wages is likely to allow Watkiss to dip into the free transfer market and he is looking to "improve in every department".
