A YOUTHFUL Kidderminster Harriers line-up finally ran out of luck as they slipped to a Worcestershire Senior Cup extra-time defeat last night.

Cup holders Halesowen Town hit the woodwork four times and had several efforts cleared off the line on their way to a 2-1 quarter-final win at Aggborough.

Substitute striker Nathan Lamey looped home the winner in the 118th minute past stranded teenager Thomas Harper, a replacement for the injured John Danby in goal.

Caretaker-manager Martin O'Connor fielded main first-team squad members Wayne Graves, Gavin Hurren, Chris McHale, Laurie Wilson, Gareth Sheldon and Danby, who hurt his back.

But diminutive teenager Tom Byrne was the one to fire Harriers ahead with a terrific 15-yard angled drive into the top corner on 17 minutes after his initial effort was blocked.

Harriers' youngsters, in particular, played some good football in the first period but Southern League Premier Division side Halesowen took over following the interval.

Lively left-winger Simon Forsdick had an extraordinary game, striking the post twice, bar once and having a shot cleared off the line.

Former Harriers defender Steve Pope crashed home an emphatic penalty to equalise on 50 minutes after a foul on ex-Birmingham City forward Howard Forinton.

Although Hurren and Sheldon were denied by goal-line blocks in extra-time, Lamey hit the post yet again for Halesowen and had another shot headed away by McHale before grabbing the late winner.

Young Harriers sub Dave Davis could have levelled seconds later but was denied by goalkeeper Dean Coleman.

HARRIERS: Danby (Harper 91); Graves, Hurren, McHale, Ludlow; Byrne, Wilson, Manning (Davis 102), Eaton (Facey 79); Butler, Sheldon. Subs not used: Dawson, Meyrick.
