MARTIN O'Connor is calling for Kidderminster Harriers' board to waste no time in appointing their new manager.

The caretaker-boss, who led Harriers to a superb 4-0 FA Trophy first round win over Scarborough on Saturday, believes a sense of stability is desperately needed at the Conference club.

Goals from Lee Thompson, Michael Blackwood, Iyseden Christie and Simon Heslop put them on track at Aggborough.

But O'Connor will now be striving for consistency when Harriers entertain Bradford City in the LDV Vans Trophy northern quarter-finals tomorrow and especially in their disappointing league campaign. The former Birmingham City midfielder, who has distanced himself from the job since Stuart Watkiss was sacked more than a week ago, said: "The club needs stability and a leader or a figurehead if you like.

"I'm not putting pressure on the board but they need to make a decision sooner rather than later and I've told them that. The club needs direction. This result will go some way towards that but there's still a lot to do. I'll just keep going until I'm told otherwise. At the moment I'm just doing everything I've done since I've joined. The only thing that's different now is that I'm picking the team on a matchday."

O'Connor continued: "The lads played well and got a brilliant result simply through their own hard work. It was a good team performance. They've got to maintain that standard. They can't dip now as that's the benchmark.

"To be a good footballer, you need a consistent level of performance. They've all got a point to prove to the new manager who might be watching.

"With no disrespect to the division we're in, we've under-achieved under Stuart by miles."

Johnny Mullins (dead leg) and Heslop (sore shin) were substituted as precautions but O'Connor expects them to be fit for Bradford.

Meanwhile, Hereford United romped to a 7-1 victory at Bognor Regis Town in the Trophy through goals from Andy Williams, Adam Stansfield, Guy Ipoua, Rob Purdie (two), Craig Stanley and Jamie Pitman.

Director of football Graham Turner said: "We were very good at the start and at the end. It's just the bits in between we have to work on. There was a long period at 2-1 when we looked quite anxious."
