HARRIERS' chairman Barry Norgrove is convinced Mark Yates is the right man to turn the fortunes around at Aggborough and lead the team into more successful times.

Yates' appointment came as something of a surprise as he was unveiled as new manager the day after the club called a board meeting to discuss potential candidates for the job vacated by Stuart Watkiss a month ago.

Norgrove said: "It came down to a shortlist of three managers -- all with league experience -- but Mark got the nod because he is a local lad who is hungry for the job and I know he will work his socks off to succeed.

"I am convinced he can do the job here. He has great experience from his time at Burnley and he is a Harrier."

Although this will be Yates' first managerial position, the 35-year-old is convinced he is up to the task.

He said: "Obviously, being the manager here is a lot different to working as a coach, and a player, under Steve Cotterill. I have learnt so much from him and I intend to put it to good use here. I know that he will always be on the end of the phone to give me any advice I may need.

"He also told me that he saw a lot of himself in me and to have someone who has achieved as much as he has say that was a great compliment. If I get anywhere near where he has I will be doing something right and that starts here."

Meanwhile, sacked Harriers boss Stuart Watkiss has landed a part-time scouting role at Wolves where he launched his professional career.

Admission prices are down to £10 for adults, £5 for concessions and £2 for under 16s when Grays visit Aggborough in the FA Trophy second round next Saturday.

Harriers beat Quorn 3-1 to reach the Midland Floodlit Youth League Cup quarter-finals with goals from Mitch Butler, Tom Byrne and Alex Francis-Greer.
