JUSTIN Thompson's Worcester City future is still hanging in the balance.

The 24-year-old defender remains at St George's Lane on a trial basis and is set to play in tomorrow's Nationwide North clash at Workington and against Droylsden on Bank Holiday Monday.

But Coca-Cola League One side Gillingham are also taking a look at Thompson, a full and under-23 Canadian international. He starred in a reserve match for the Gills against Queen's Park Rangers last week, but the Priestfield Stadium club have yet to offer Thompson a permanent deal.

City player-manager Preece admits he would love to sign the former Bury man.

"He would give us plenty of options at the back. We could move Des Lyttle out to the right and have Chris Smith, Shabir Khan and Justin as centre-halves. It would give us strength in depth."
