MALVERN pool player Shaun Daly has a shot at a £50,000 first prize after reaching the last 32 of the national Pub Pool Challenge tournament.
A staggering 19,000 players entered the event but Shaun fought his way through the preliminaries and will contest the last stage at Coventry City FC's ground next month.
He is being sponsored for the tournament by The Bakery Inn in Malvern and regulars will be able to enjoy his performance as a highlights package is getting an airing on Sky Sports on July 29.
"It's a one-frame challenge, it's a bit hit and miss but someone's got to win," said Shaun.
The finals come just 24-hours after the Professional World Championships at Coventry, where Shaun is seeded 16 and where he has previously reached the quarter-finals.
Ahead of all that, The Bakery has interest in the finals of a £1,000 team event having reached the last 16 for the finals in St Helens on July 8.
Shaun is a member of the seven-strong Bakery A side, which also includes Fred Tandy, Andy Jones, Marcus Lannie, Ben Taylor, Darren Selvey and Ken Jones.
The honours in the Malvern Pool League have been settled, with Shaun winning his ninth singles' title, 20 years after taking his first. Lee Styles was the runner-up.
The team winners were Bailiffs, with Gas Tavern runners-up. The Bakery-based Gunners won the knock-out event, with Supergrass runners-up.
The doubles went to Shaun Daly and Andy Jones, with Craig Lloyd and Dan Meddings runners-up.
