Avoncroft v Colwall IV

A THIRD successive league win for Colwall after they won the toss and batted first at Stone CC's ground.

Raxter's inswing caused some major problems, with Andy Freestone bowled, George Lee offering a return catch and Charlie Fenwick caught one ball after a blistering on-drive.

Skipper Riley opted to occupy the crease and see off the remaining overs from the seamer, ably supported by Andy Lannie.

The score moved into three figures before Lannie fell but the middle order of Peter Harwood, Will Wright and Richard Lee, all gave Riley good support.

He began to accelerate, rapidly reaching a century before falling LBW.

Harwood junior and Riley junior added 25 for the ninth wicket as Colwall made 209.

Avoncroft made over 280 in their last game and Colwall were mindful of the need to bowl accurately.

The batsmen got off to a flyer, both being dropped, before Lee held an edge off Fenwick to get rid of Taylor.

The run-rate stayed on target throughout but bowlers had the knack of getting a wicket in their first over. Pick of the bunch was a one-handed slip catch by Andy Lannie to dismiss Tedstone off Freestone.

A Lee stumping also gave Will Wright a first wicket in league cricket.

John Ditchburn took two in an over and seemed to have the game won until a last-wicket partnership of 41. Then Ditchburn found Cound's edge and keeper Lee pouched it.
