Bewdley v Barnards Green II

A nail-biting finish to Sunday's match saw the Green snatch a six-run victory.

Green batted first but lost Sherliker cheaply and it was left to Dave Bayliss and Matt Higgs to steady the ship.

In the face of steady bowling, the middle order offered catching practice as Longmore, Scullion, Wajzer and Plant all lost patience.

It was left to the tailenders to set a target as Dave Price (15no), Dom Horne (12) and last-man Adam Price pushed the total up to 177.

The Green opening attack of James Scullion and Anshuman bowled more accurately than last week, claiming two quick wickets, but Caton and Hands gradually took control of the match, putting on 88 at a good rate.

Dave Price made the breakthrough, trapping Caton LBW for 44, and leg-spinner John Sherliker had Hands stumped for 31 shortly afterwards.

With the run-rate slowing considerably, Matt Higgs took a superb one-handed catch to dismiss Wilson and give Scullion a well-deserved second wicket.

With five overs remaining, Mauger and Mills needed 33 more to win and seemed in control until skipper Marek Wajzer brought Sherliker back for his final over.

Mills (35) danced down the wicket to the first ball, allowing keeper Dom Horne to stump him gleefully, and then Horne clung on to a catch to dismiss Pratt.

Dave Bayliss held on to a well-struck shot at short mid-wicket as Sherliker (4-27) claimed his third victim in an over.

The Bewdley tailenders failed to muster the final dozen needed in the last over.
