Letter. I should like to ask who is responsible for the disgraceful state of the roads and drains in Offenham. The people living in the lower part have for the past month or more had the water up to their doors, and children going to school and others have had to wade through the water or go through their neighbours' houses that are higher up. Surely the Road Surveyor or the Sanitary Inspector is responsible. Where is the district councillor that he does not look at the matter? I think that the ratepayers should have something done for their money.

Damage estimated at £2,000 was caused by a fire which completely destroyed Messrs Povey and Kilminster's garage, nearly opposite the Hampton end of Evesham new bridge. The Evesham fire brigade was called at 2 a.m. and for over three hours were occupied in an unavailing endeavour to cope with the flames. They arrived a few minutes after the call, but were unable to obtain water from the Avon, which is opposite, and had to resort to the Isbourne near by. Two Ford lorries, a large touring car, a motor cycle, a lighting plant, a large quantity of oil, and agricultural engines and tools perished in the fire

Evesham Methodist Church in Bridge Street is closing on July 17 for a major, six-month refit that will cost an estimated £35,000. While the work is going on, the Methodists will use the Oat Street Unitarian church and schoolroom. The project follows the sale to the neighbouring Robirch sausage and pie factory of the two-storey Methodist Sunday School room which is being used to extend the factory. It is claimed to be the biggest church complex in Evesham and it is to reduce building maintenance and running costs that the schoolroom has been sold and the alterations to the church put in hand.
