THE Evesham Chrysanthemum Show, held at the Town Hall on Friday afternoon, still holds its ground against larger competitors. The cut blooms were again very fine, and they made much finer show in vases than previous on the boards. In all, there were about 136 entries, an increase on last year, principally due to the large number of cage-birds sent. The fruit section was short, but there was a very keen competition in vegetables.

A MEETING was held in Mr. S. J. Grove's tea Room, Evesham, on Thursday evening, for the purpose of discussing a proposal to form a choral society in connection with Evesham Orchestral Society. There was a large attendance. Mr. J. E. Rudge (president of the Orchestral Society) presided and he said that an Orchestral Society was inaugurated some weeks ago, after which it was suggested that a choral society should be formed, to run in conjunction with the Orchestral Society. He personally thought it a splendid suggestion, and offered to assist in any way if one was formed.

MORE than 300 people attended the Evesham Press Ball in the Public Hall last Friday, one of the liveliest and most successful Coronation Year events. The ball brought to Evesham for the first time a full-sized dance band with an international reputation - that of the Central Band of the Royal Air Force. The R.A.F. band was supported by the Music Makers, of Evesham. Apart from the music, features of the event were the lighting and floral decorations, the excellent catering and he surprise attractions. At midnight a short floor show was staged and it was received with great enthusiasm.

THERE was only one solution to Evesham's traffic problems, and that was a by-pass now, Mr Michael Spicer, MP for South Worcestershire, said at the annual president's night of the Bengeworth Traders' Association. Speaking as president, he added that they did not want it in 10 years time, which was the Ministry's view, but as fast as humanly possible. Mr Spicer said he had told the Ministry that Evesham could not wait for 10 years. The problem was a major one, and not merely the bleating of a few local people and organisations. People in authority must be told in strong terms that the stranglehold on the town was a threat, not only to Evesham, but to the region as a whole.
