There was a fair attendance and a much better show of wheats at Evesham corn market. Good red samples made up to 10s 6d bag. Foreign wheats slow trade at late rates, or in some cases slight reduction. Grinding barley unchanged, with quieter demand. Maize 6p easier. New bans 10s 6d, and old 11s 9d per bag. Oats quiet, unaltered. Trade was fairly good at the stock sale. Fat beasts made as much as £19 15s, while wether sheep reached 51s 6d. Bacon pigs made £5 10s.

The second lecture arranged by the local C.E.M.S was given to a record audience at Beckford on Monday evening. The Vicar (Rev. W. W. Baker) presided and gave the address, which was entitled "The homes and haunts of famous men in the midland counties." The lecture was illustrated by an excellent collection of lantern slides kindly lent by the Midland Bus Company. At the conclusion of the lecture a vote of thanks was accorded to the Vicar and to Mr. H. W. Baker, who managed the lantern.

Sir Rupert De la Bere, M.P., president of Evesham Bowling Club, was unable to attend the club's forty-seventh annual dinner at the Northwick Hotel, Evesham, on Monday. His medical adviser, "seriously perturbed" at Sir Rupert's condition, has insisted that he should have absolute rest until he has recovered form the "dangerous overstrain" from which he is suffering. Major C. B. Farey said with one exception two years ago when Parliamentary duties prevented him from making a visit to Evesham, Sir Rupert had attended all the club's annual dinners since 1937.

The official handover ceremony took place in Evesham on Tuesday of Meade Court, sheltered accommodation of 20 flats for the elderly. The building, a carefully designed development in dark red brick to harmonise with the surroundings, was officially handed over to the chairman of Wychavon District Council, Mr. W. B. Ashton, by Mr. J. E. Skinner, managing director of the building contractors, Meades of Evesham. The new premises include accommodation for the warden (which has a radio link to each flat). Many of the flats will have an outlook over the play area and the residents will therefore be able to keep in touch with local family life rather than being shut away with only each other to look at.
