Kings Lynn 2, Evesham United 1

ANOTHER narrow defeat and more discip-linary problems for a United side that has now gone a month without a Southern League Premier Division success.

Saturday's win for the home side lifted them into third spot in the table but left the Robins fifth bottom with just eight points from ten top flight outings to leave manager Dave Busst a miserable man.

"It wasn't a great performance against a side that we were more than capable of beating," said the Common Road manager.

"What makes it all the more difficult to accept is that they are in third place and had we shown anything like the form we showed against Halesowen then we could have got a result.

"We gave the ball away far too much in the first half but they didn't hurt us. We had a bit more guile about us after the break but didn't really create an awful lot and it needed something special to get us back into the match.

"We then took the game to them and the crowd were getting on their backs but we couldn't take advantage and more weak defending gave them the winner.

It was Richard Ball who powered in a spectacular 73rd minute equaliser from 25 yards after the hosts had taken the lead five minutes after the break when, despite Dave Adey's heroics, Sam McMahon finally found the net.

Top scorer Danny Bloomfield then snatched the winner ten minutes from time and the visitors' misery worsened five minutes later when Grant Pinkney, a 41st minute replacement for Stuart Hamilton, was shown a straight red after shoving a home player to the floor.

"Having three players sent off in five games doesn't worry me, " said an honest Busst. However, what Grant did was childish and he has let both himself and the club down.

"It doesn't matter what you say about the decision, he put his hands up and if you do that then you're going to go. I gave Grant got his chance and he let me down."

The manager revealed that players who are suspended don't get paid and Pinkney is now likely to miss three matches starting with the FA Trophy clash with Solihull on October 15.

Steve Duncan and Neil O'Sullivan, however, will both be available for that match as they sit out the last match of their three-game bans next Tuesday night against Gloucester City.

Next Tuesday night's game against Gloucester (7.45) is being sponsored by Cotswold Provi-sions, Briar Close, Evesham and the ball by Station Garden Nurseries, Station Road, Blackminster.
