Councillor W. A. Fisher is to be heartily congratulated upon having been unanimously chosen by his colleagues in the Town Council to be the chief magistrate of his native town. It is a great honour and is one to which all good citizens should aspire. That the office entails great responsibilities and hard work there is no doubt, but this is amply repaid by the satisfaction gained by the knowledge that one has done one's duty faithfully. Mr. Fisher made an earnest appeal to his colleagues for support, and those who have passed through the chair will be able to assure him that such an appeal will not be in vain. We wish his worship health and strength to perform the many duties of his office.

In the presence of a large gathering of the British Legion and the public, the newly acquired standard of the Littletons and Cleeve Prior branch of the Legion was solemnly dedicated at South Littleton Church on Sunday afternoon. Despite the unhappy nature of the weather there was a fine turn out of Legionnaires from the neighbouring branches at Evesham, Badsey, Honeybourne and Bretforton, Pershore and Fladbury, while the Littleton and Cleeve Prior branch was present in full force. Altogether about 100 men paraded in the Evesham-road where they were inspected by General Sir Francis Davies, K.C.B., K.C.M.G., K.C.V.O., who paused to pass a word and shake the hand of most of them.

The largest parade since the war was held at Pershore on Remembrance Sunday, when contingents from the British Legion, Home Guard, Army Cadet Force, R.A.F.A., Girl Guides, Brownies, Boy Scouts and Wolf Cubs, led by the Pershore police and the Bretforton Silver Band, marched to Pershore Abbey for the annual service of remembrance. The parade, under the command of Mr. J. S. Irwin, moved to the Abbey via Broad-street, High-street and Church-street. Inside the Abbey there was hardly an empty seat. After the service the parade took a shortened route to Broad-street where Lieut.-Col. Taylor, president of the Pershore branch of the British Legion, took the salute.

Plans for a new central shopping complex in Evesham were given the solid support by Wychavon councillors this week. The site is in the middle of an area bounded by High Street, Oat Street, Bridge Street and Cowl Street and a large proportion of it is owned by Wychavon. Now a large company of chartered surveyors has shown interest in assembling a shopping site in the area. The development could take the form of a partnership between the major landowners or the site could be assembled by a private company. Members of Wychavon policy committee agreed that the officers should negotiate with landowners with a view to drawing up an overall scheme for the development of the site.
