THERE was huge concern for the safety of pedestrians, especially children crossing the new Bromsgrove Eastern by-pass. Calls were being made for the county council to construct either an over or under pass. But a scheme for a subterannean walk had already been abandoned because of the likelihood of it flooding.

A PROPOSAL that old folk, who relied on the Home Help service to help maintain their independence, should be means tested was slammed by Bromsgrove Trades Council, which called it 'deplorable'. People on state pension using the county council run service would, it appeared, get a 50 per cent rebate on their £1 fee.

DR ROLF Zondermann, the chief executive of Gronau council and his family, were the first official visitors to Bromsgrove since the towns agreed to form a twining link. He said he believed Bromsgrove to be an ideal twining partner for the German border town.

TRADE unions and bosses at Garrington's factory in Bromsgrove were to meet to decide where the axe would fall on the 180 jobs which parent company GKN had said must go. Altogether 2,000 jobs were to be axed from its Midland's plants. At present at Bromsgrove there were 2,300 staff.
