YOUNGSTERS at a Lodge Park school welcomed a celebrity guest to help them learn more about healthy eating.

TV chef Alan Coxon visited Oak Hill First School as part of a Worcesrshire County Council drive to improve children's eating habits.

The event followed a scrutiny exercise in which about 150 schools were visited by a task group of councillors to look at what was available to youngsters.

The group came up with 21 recommendations, which included promoting work to encourage the healthy eating message. And so celebrity Alan Coxon, voted one of the top 10 chefs in the world by the BBC, joined in to highlight the benefits of healthy eating by touring schools in the area.

"This is something I've been very interested in for a number of years, so when I heard about the county council's scrutiny exercise, I naturally asked if there was anything I could do," he said.

"Healthy eating isn't just about ensuring our children have healthy options available to them throughout the day. It's also about educating them to know why certain foods are good for them so they can make informed eating choices."
