A COMPROMISE solution was hammered out for the building of Bromsgrove Methodists' £250,000 community centre project. The town's policy-making committee was told the working party had come up with an alternative site to the School Drive site acceptable to the church's steering committee. It was said the group could produce a viable scheme, which would not encroach on the existing car park in School Drive. The proposed alternative was situated in Stratford Road and would mean the demolition of the former old almhouses.

THE Messenger stated if the new Mini Metro proved to end British Leyland's dark days, it could also help Garringtons. Seventeen engine and transmission components in each Metro were forged in the giant Aston Fields factory. With advance orders for the Metro of £100m, this must mean big business for Garringtons.

THE fate of a Bromsgrove farmer's plans to construct a £250,000 18-hole golf course on 105 acres of land still hung in the balance. The plan, initiated by Ted Morris of Slideslow Farm, more than two years ago was now subject to high level talks with Ministry officials.

PARENTS taking their children to and from Meadows First School are causing traffic congestion. Bromsgrove planners heard of the problems during short periods of the day when parents calling for their children parked in Santridge Lane. The county council surveyor's department and the police had suggested waiting restrictions should be imposed and "keep clear" markings should be provided outside the school.
