MATCHBOROUGH councillor Juliet Brunner is fighting plans for a new mobile phone mast in her ward.
Mrs Brunner is rallying residents to help stop a 15m T-Mobile mast being installed on Matchborough Way near the first school.
"I will be helping to organise a petition to stop this huge development near the school," she said.
''It is within range of the first school and the high school, in a copse of trees."
Mrs Brunner said the application had been put in on Thursday and was another example of plans being submitted just before the school holidays to prevent objections.
"Again it's a sneaky little way of trying to get a planning application in during the school holidays," she added.
"I am urging people to sign the petition -- it's a concerning issues and although the Stewart Report lacks clarity on the long-term effects of telegraph masts, I do not think the lives of our children are worth risking."
