SIX hundred youngsters enjoyed a party hosted by Garringtons. The canteen at the firm's plant at Aston Fields was lavishly decorated for the occasion, which included a visit from Santa and a magic show.
BROMSGROVE'S slum clearance programme continued. The urban district council approved the bulldozing of 64 run-down properties in Willow Gardens, New Road and Church Lane in Sidemoor. The displaced householders would be offered new homes in the second phase of the Broad Street estate.
A SALE of live Christmas poultry in Bromsgrove Market Hall met a flying trade. Luce and Silvers auctioneer John Sanders was kept busy selling the 1,250 turkeys and geese, the largest number since the war. Turkey prices averaged 5/5 (27p) per pound, while geese made to 43/6 (£2.17.5p) apiece.
