DROITWICH leaped into third place in the Midlands Division Four West (South) by inflicting a second convincing victory on Cleobury Mortimer within a week.SLIPPERY RUNNER: A Droitwich player tries to get down the flanks.

Victory over Mortimer and Berkswell and Balsall's defeat to Old Hales put Droitwich back in the top three.

Spa had been firmly placed in third up until Christmas but a poor run of results at the start of 2006 meant that they slipped down the table.

However, with a game to go Droitwich are now in the driving seat to finish third.

On Saturday Droitwich overcame conceding an early try to comfortably win the match at the Glyn Mitchell Memorial Stadium.

The visitors had taken advantage of Droitwich's inability to settle on wet conditions to score a touch down.

But Droitwich were not trailing for long. Captain Nick Godfrey set up Ben Cottrell, who ran in from an angle to score a try. Pete Murphy converted the try to put Spa ahead.

Scrum half Craig Burgess then led a break that allowed Cotterell to grab his second touch down of the match. Murphy converted it to put the home side 14-5 ahead.

Despite their opponents pushing for a try Droitwich were sharp on the break. James Davies secured the ball from a lineout and forced a penalty try. Murphy converted the touch down and then added a penalty minutes later.

Droitwich end the season away at second from bottom Shipston-on-Stour in pole position to finish third in the table.

While Spa and Berkswell are third in the table Droitwich have a points scored difference of 166, compared to their Warwickshire rival's minus 75.

l Droitwich's seconds will face Worcester Wanderers in the Kidderminster Cup final on Sunday, April 2, in Kidderminster.

Spa beat Aston Old Edwardians 42-0 and Old Halesonians 18-3 to reach the final.
