DROITWICH RFC's director of rugby Julian Bailey admitted that it's going to be difficult to replace head coach Mark Evans, who is leaving the club.

Evans, who joined Spa at the start of the season, has helped Droitwich rebuild the first team after last season's relegation to the Midlands Division Four West (South).

Despite Saturday's 49-12 defeat to Shipston-on-Stour Droitwich have enjoyed a season of stability and finished fourth in the table.

Evans is quitting his role because of work commitments.

Bailey said: "Mark was perfect for us because we were looking for someone like him and he wanted to coach.

"I have to thank him because he's done so much for us. He's helped us get back on our feet.

"It's going to be very hard to replace him because he's made such a good impact."

Bailey is now looking forward to next season and the first team building on their top four finish.

He said: "If we had won some games we thought we should have we could have won promotion this year. But if we continue to make the same progression as this season I'll be pleased.

"If we do then there's a good chance we can win promotion."

Droitwich have been invited to compete in Alcester RFC's sevens tournament later in April.
