PAUPER inmates at Droitwich Workhouse enjoyed their traditional if belated festivities around the Christmas tree followed by a concert. In addition they sat down in the gaily decorated dining room to a capital tea of sandwiches, tarts, jellies and other tasty treats organised by the Master and Matron, Mr and Mrs Close. After an enjoyable concert Lady Georgina Vernon, from Hanbury Hall, distributed gifts donated by generous, wealthy donors.

CLOSE on 200 revellers partied the night away at one of Bromsgrove's most glittering social events of the year, the Cottage Hospital ball. The walls of the venue, the Drill Hall in Church Street, were draped with yellow and white muslin and every lampshade was fitted with an imitation Japanese umbrella shade.

A SERIOUS accident befell Bromsgrove builder William Weaver as he was driving to Bradley Green to bring his workers back to town so they could vote in the General Election. Passing through Stoke Heath the pony stumbled throwing him from the trap on to the ground. He was taken unconscious to his home in the Strand where a doctor attended him. He was later said to be going on satisfactorily.
