THE women's section of Lickey British Legion held its annual dinner. A total of 50 attended and for the first time, husbands and friends, including many representatives of the men's branch, were invited to join the party. Messrs John and Wallace Russell sang a selection of duets accompanied by Mrs Colley on the piano. Monty Banks also entertained with his conjuring.

WORCESTERSHIRE Constabulary was recruiting police constables. The criteria for the vacancies were men with good physique aged between 19 and 29, minimum height 5ft 9 inches (without boots). Initial pay was £475 per annum (£9 2s 1d per week), rising to £535 per annum (£10 5s 1d per week) after two years.

GOALS from "Boxer" Humphries and a fine defensive display from Albert Farrow helped Bromsgrove Rovers to a lucky 2-0 win against Whitwick Colliers at the Victoria Ground. It was their ninth win and it took them past the 50-goal mark for the season.

MR Leonard George Fretwell, club steward of Barnt Green Sports Club for 28 years, died aged 55. Mr Fretwell lived in the club's adjoining cottage on Bittell Road since his marriage in 1927. His funeral took place at St Andrew's Church followed by cremation at Lodge Hill.
