A STUDLEY hairdresser is being forced to give up her salon after it was flooded for the second time in two years.

Stephanie Derrick, who owns the S F Hairdressing salon in Littlewood Green, said she had been forced to look for new premises following another flood on Thursday.

Ms Derrick, who lives in Lodge Park, said she was shocked to find the road outside her salon was deep in water and it was pouring straight into her shop as there was no kerb to prevent it.

"The drains were flooding and it poured in through the front door. We put sandbags up but it was going straight over them," said the 32-year-old.

"We were paddling in it. We had buckets to bail a lot out but it had nowhere to go. The salon now smells a bit damp. The whole thing is terrible."

She said she had contacted Warwickshire County Council last year and again this year -- but nothing has happened.

"Something needs to be done about it. It is shocking, especially considering the business rates we pay," she added.

The salon lost out on a day of business and Ms Derrick is now looking at finding another shop but says if she can't find suitable premises she will have to shut altogether.

"I can't risk it happening again. Every time it rains now I panic and think it's going to flood again. I'm not going to go through this for another year."

A county council spokesman said the kerb was lowered a few years ago for an access point and, when the flash flood occured, the water washed through the lowered section.

But he did add that the drains had been cleared within the last 12 months and local property owners were welcome to apply to the council for the kerb to be raised.
