ROBERT Smart, a farmer, of Barnsley Hall, sued Herbert Byng of The Vine, Catshill, for £1, over the non-delivery of a pig. It was alleged that he bought a hog pig from the defendant for 9s per score.

THE fortnightly meeting of the Literary and Debating Society was held at the Oddfellows Hall in Alvechurch. The subject of the discussion was "Vegetarianism v Animal Food".

Mr Monk took the case for the former and Mr G. Basford the latter. A long debate followed and on the question being put, there was a majority of two in favour of vegetarianism.

BROMSGROVE Rovers narrowly lost 5-4 to Rowley United. Kicking downhill and having the assistance of the wind, the opening exchanges were in Rovers' favour.

They took the lead through Nix, but goals from Vaughan, Higginson and Cole put Rowley 3-1 ahead.

Towards the interval Rovers had the better of matters, with Stevens and Stiles making the scores level.

Higginson put the home side back in the lead after the break, but Nix equalised again. A Rowley United breakaway, however, saw Higginson score the winner on the stroke of time.
