A SIX-year-old Woodrow boy who suffers from cerebral palsy couldn't believe his luck when he was given a specially adapted tricycle, courtesy of the Craig Evans Appeal.

Brandon Stirling, of Doverdale Close, is the latest person to benefit from the appeal, which was launched earlier this year through the Advertiser to help disabled people in Redditch.

The trike was donated to the fund by Greenlands woman Yvonne Evans, whose grandchild -- also a cerebral palsy sufferer -- had outgrown it.

Appeal director Jean Leathwaite then scoured the area for a needy recipient and located Brandon, who suffers from glaucoma as well as cerebral palsy, has little eye sight and cannot walk or talk.

"He is such a happy, lovely boy with a big personality," said Mrs Leathwaite.

"It was a pleasure to see him so excited when we first put him on the trike. A big thank you to Yvonne Evans."

The Craig Evans Appeal has this week also helped 30-year-old Nigel Yates, who suffered a stroke two years ago, leaving him tetraplegic.

The Saltways care home resident has to travel to Coventry twice a week for treatment.

However, because the standard car seat does not hold his body still, he suffers from travel sickness.

But now, thanks to the appeal, his family's car has been fitted with a £2,000 hoist so he can travel in relative comfort without the fear of travel sickness.

"Nigel's partner's place of work donated £500 to the cause and the appeal put in the rest. We were so pleased to be of help," said Mrs Leathwaite.

"We would like to mention Nigel desperately needs a lot of further treatment and want to continue helping him from our funds as much as we can."
