A CONCERT, arranged by Mr and Mrs Fred Wilkins, was given to the inmates at the Workhouse in Droitwich. A comedy, Written In Sand, was performed by Miss SC Grenville-Barrs, Mr and Mrs F Wilkins, Mr FE Osborne and Mr AA Smith. The second part of the programme consisted of miscellaneous selections. Miss A Lewis played a pianoforte solo, Messrs F Wilkins, AA Smith and JW Close sang humorous songs, Mr E Creswick gave a violin solo and Mr C Creswick a cello solo.

BARNT Green Cricket Club won their first match of the season against Astwood Bank. On a wretched afternoon, runs were scarce, with only 58 being scored. Visitors, Astwood Bank batted first and were all out for 28. EG Paul took four wickets for six runs, and EG Bigwood five for 15. Barnt Green had to get the runs quickly as rain was coming, and they lost four wickets, before sealing victory.

SERGEANT Howard Webb, a member of the Bromsgrove Volunteer Company, sailed for Canada on Canadian Pacificliner the Empress of Britain. Sergeant Webb gained and justified his promotion by good shooting, efficient drill and close attention to duty. A presentation of a handsome colonists knife was made to him by the Officer Commanding and the Sergeants of the Company. Captain Creak told Sergeant Webb that although he was going to a new country, he remained under the old flag.
