A TENNIS tournament was held at Bromsgrove Cricket Ground in aid of the Bromsgrove branch of the Girls' Evening Home. Prizes were given by Mrs Ansell, Mr Martyn Smith, Mrs Brooks, and Mr John Green. Mr AV Holyoake acted as referee. The net proceeds amounted to between £5 and £6. The mixed doubles was won by Miss Corbett and Rev Paterson, who defeated Miss Williams and Mr Walker 6-2. Mr Nance and Mr Pratt won the men's doubles tournament, beating Mr Perkins and Mr Walker 9-7.

A PRESENTATION was made to Rev HJ Hammond, who had been the Rector of St Nicholas' Church in Droitwich for the last 28 years. He was leaving to take up similar duties at Great Comberton. The presentation, of a handsome plated tea tray and a silver cake basket, was made by church warden Mr Edgar Easles. Mr Hammond also received a Princess plated hot water kettle from members of the choir.

THE results of Bromsgrove Farmers' and Droitwich Farmers' Club's spring competitions were announced. Among the winners were Mr TWood, of Brookhouse Farm, Chadwich, for best cultivated farm, Mr T Wall, of The Ford, Droitwich, for the best five acres of clover seeds, while the shephard's prize went to W Palmer of Stoke Prior.

BROMSGROVE Cricket Club played a midweek match against Rev WT Strange's XI to a team that contained a number of footballers in its ranks. The visitors batted first, making 85, and Bromsgrove responded by hitting 136. An excellent partnership was made by Nokes, who hit 32, and Horton, who knocked 56 runs, to steer Bromsgrove to victory.
