Dudley Kingswinford 48 Bromsgrove 12

Midlands Division One

BROMSGROVE still wait for their first win in the Midlands Division One this season after they suffered a heavy defeat at Swindon Road on Saturday.

The Boars were on the wrong end of an eight try mauling by relegated Dudley to continue their disastrous start to the season.

Defeat on Saturday means Bromsgrove has lost the last three games and is yet to gather any points in the division.

On Saturday Bromsgrove were no match for a Dudley side that contained the Boars' prolific former fly half Matt Birch.

But Birch, who converted five of Dudley's tries, was outshone by winger Tui Asi Pito, who terrorised Bromsgrove and scored a hat trick.

The Boars were under pressure from the start but battled bravely in the first half to give Dudley a fight.

Bromsgrove had already enjoyed one let off when Birch missed an early penalty kick.

However, the visitors' resistance was broken when Pito stole in to put Bromsgrove 5-0 down.

Desperate defending by Dave Clark, when he pulled down a maul, resulted in Dudley being awarded a penalty try, which Birch converted.

After Pito had scored his second Bromsgrove began to fight back.

Former Dudley player Matt Halstead was pulling the strings for the Boars at fly half and he set up Craig Walker for a try, which was converted by Halstead.

Bromsgrove's opposition hit back, with Richard Port scoring a converted try.

But Halstead pounced on a Dudley error to set up Walker for his second try of the game and make it 26-12.

However, Bromsgrove were working hard to try and restrict their rampant rivals and as they tired Dudley took full advantage.

Further tries by Andy McLellan, Pito, Ian Gowland and Ian Langford then sealed Bromsgrove's defeat.

Coach Dean Ball said: "We expected a difficult game and that is exactly what we got.

"The teams that came down into this division are a cut above the rest and hopefully they will keep beating everyone and give the rest a chance to scrap for the left overs.

"I want to take the positives out of the game. We held our own in terms of possession for much of the match.

"The only problem was we also gave the ball away in silly places and allowed Dudley to score."

l The club's burgeoning minis and juniors section has been so successful it will be awarded with the RFU Community Rugby Active Sports Seal of Approval before Saturday's game at home to Luton.

The award is a stamp of approval by the game's national body and Sport England that Bromsgrove is a safe, effective and child effective environment for children.

The award also co-incides with the mini and juniors section's 30th anniversary celebrations.
