THE notion held by many that last year had been the wettest in living memory was incorrect. There had been a total of 30.8 inches of rain, three less than average. This had been nowhere near the record of 41.54 inches in 1924 and the 'deluge' year of 1912 when 44.40 inches were recorded in the district.

THE first heavy snowfall of the winter brought a crop of road accidents. But there were no reports of any serious injuries.

POOR weather in late summer meant acres of sorry-looking cereal crops were still standing in the fields waiting to be harvested. Walter Webb of Townsend Farm, Bromsgrove, who also had land at Chadwich, spent New Year's Day there, along with agricultural contractor Tom Hooper, attempting to combine some of his weather-beaten crop.

A PROPOSED shake-up of police services locally would see the amalgamation of the Bromsgrove and Redditch divisions. Droitwich would in future come under Malvern. However, the plan had not met with universal approval, especially in Redditch where it was felt the borough would play second fiddle to Bromsgrove.
