I WOULD like to express my gratitude, through Your View, for the excellent care and attention shown to me during and after a heart attack on June 3 at 7.58am.

Ambulance number one arrived within two minutes. The lone paramedic reassuringly told me that everything which could be done was being done. A back-up ambulance arrived two minutes later with two paramedics working flat out to save my life. While being transported to hospital my heart failed. The ambulance was halted, an emergency procedure carried out and once again I was on my way.

At the age of 72 I really thought my life was over. The dedicated team of doctors, nurses and paramedics thought otherwise. A second chance was being given to me.

Nothing was too much trouble for the professional team of workers, who, during the three-shift system, worked so hard.

It was a real eye-opener for me to see what goes on in this busy coronary care unit. The nurses never stopped for a minute, observing, monitoring, administering drugs and taking the time to quietly reassure the very nervous patients.

Why am I telling you this? Because I wish to halt the moaners who berate the Worcestershire Royal Hospital. We need to praise what is excellent and encourage where there is need for improvement. In my six-day stay, I can honestly say that royalty could not have had better treatment. The food was good and the cleaning first class.

Visitors to the hospital do not see the half of what goes on behind the scenes. You have to be a patient to appreciate and experience for yourself how it all fits together.

It was obvious that the hands-on medical staff run the wards not the managers from afar off.

Please support our local wonderful hospital and from a thankful patient thank you for giving me my second chance.
