AFTER tackling the bard, the Bible and books the Reduced Shakespeare Company is taking on Tinseltown.

The Californian three-man comedy troupe's latest sharp show, Completely Hollywood (abridged), takes a more alternative look at the film industry.

The performance followed the efforts of director Adam Millard, who was assisted by scriptwriter Aaron Brown and over-enthusiastic actor David Menkin, in attempting to make a Hollywood blockbuster on a shoestring budget.

Menkin, who only landed the lead part after generously donating his trust fund to the film's coffers, delivered the best lines of the night.

None more witty, and arguably true, than when the actor gave his reasons for the love of the acting art.

"It is because I love seeing actors doing things that they are not comfortable with like Clint Eastwood singing or Keanu Reeves acting."

The self-styled "bad boys of abridgement" managed to condense so many famous lines and references from movies that it was difficult to remember a film not mentioned by the end of the night.

A particular highlight of the show was the adaptation of the Matrix trilogies pioneering "Bullet-Time" special effects.

If you are not up on your celluloid history some of the witty one-liners, which mostly attack the industry's obsession with money, could prove confusing.

Judging by the night's non-stop laughter the majority of the audience, who also played the part of "extras", fully understood the jokes.
