LOCAL industrialist Sir High Chance gave a talk and film show at the Roebuck Hotel on the history and traditions of Bromsgrove's ancient Court Leet. His audience comprised police, magistrates and members of the court. Apart from the annual dinner, it was the first time in living memory the court had gathered for an out-of-court function. Sir Hugh told his audience in 1935 the Bailiff's chain of office had grown so long it was divided with the shorter portion being given to the Reeve.

FOR the third time in seven weeks a Bromsgrove Rovers home fixture fell victim to the Arctic weather. A foot of snow covered part of the Victoria Ground with a thick layer of ice beneath. It was hoped the thaw would arrive in time for next week's friendly against Crystal Palace.

THE age-old question of installing street lights at Wychbold cropped up again at the monthly meeting of Dodderhill Parish Council. The latest estimate from the MEB was for £1,667 for 21 250 watt lights plus an annul cost of £233 for current. If the council agreed, the lamps would be erected on the stretch of main road through the village covered by the speed limit.

THE Rev Dicker, the new vicar of St Godwald's Church in Bromsgrove, was being prevented from taking up his new job because part of the vicarage was occupied by tenants. The previous vicar, the Rev Fry, had converted part of the building into two flats. One couple had already left of their own free will but the others had to be evicted by a county court action.

MANY young lads in Bromsgrove were opting to train for skilled jobs, the town's youth employment officer was pleased to report. He said he was even more delighted because they also found time to attend evening classes and the many youth clubs the town had to offer.
